Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Question 3

What Have You Learnt From Audience Feedback

Through audience feedback I have learnt that my video was ambiguous which made it difficult for some members of the audience to identify the chosen narrative or construct their own ideas of a narrative. They found the video to be almost too alternative to create one fixed narrative. However, this works well to my chosen song as it is of the alternative genre which allows it to create free formed ideas that can't be made to a specific correct answer.

I have also learnt that my album art work links well with my music video, as long as you have watched the video first. If not, audiences may struggle to almost identify what the song may be about. As a collection of pictures and use of text the album art work link well with the music video, but don't allow a narrative to be created from it.

One other piece of feedback that I have learnt from is to be careful on with my shots an objects in my surroundings. As pointed out chairs are clearly seen from behind the curtain. So if I was to so another project like this I would have t clear my space or fully hide an unwanted objects.

Evaluation Question 1

In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms and Conventions of Real Media Products?

The final music video fulfills the criteria of being an Alternative genre music video. This is completed by the music video having an ambiguous narrative that follows the flow of the music but then doesn't seem to have any relation to the lyrics of the song. However, this goes against Andrew Goodwin's theory the images on screen are used to give meaning and create a representation of the lyrics physically, as the image on screen doesn't explain the lyrics
.
There is slight reference to notion of looking within my project. This reference appears when the secondary male actor is high above the secondary female actor and has control over her as he strokes her body to then push her down to the ground. This can be seen as a sexual appeal as the male wishes to touch the female, then after he is done with her he is able to push her away.

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

When all elements of the project are put together I think it is very effective at create a collaborative piece. I think that the album art work and video have a stronger link compared to the advert/poster work.

The advert/poster is a slightly different and doesn't share as strong as a link tot eh other two components as the advert/poster is the promotion of the artist as it shows the iconic triangle. This will allow the target audience know that this is something of Alt-J's so is very effective when it comes to promoting the artist. Whilst the music video and album art work are more of a promotion of the song rather than the artist Alt-J themselves.

I think that the music video and album art work share a stronger link as the album art work is created using snapshots of iconic moments from within the music video. Preferably the music video should be seen first so then the album art work shows more relevance and is easier to understand. The use of the lyrics on the art work gives a sought of link and idea that it is an Alt-J product if the lyrics are recognized, which it would be but only by big fans of Alt-J.
